Process shots below.
Day 2 and the piece is starting to come together At this point I still don’t
know how I am going to tackle getting the base down to a small circle for
mounting but I continue working, trusting that I will figure something out.
Day 3 and it’s time to stop and let everything firm up for a week or so
before placing the sculpture on it’s side and carving the base down to a
circle about 1 1/2″ wide. After that stage is completed the sculpture dried
under plastic for a few months before going in the bisque firing.

Wee bit nerve racking! I’ve put a little bit of ceramic fiber under the stem
to help support the sculpture. The top of the piece is barely touching the
kiln shelf it is propped against and everything looks good but I put a safety
wall of bricks behind it just in case. Turns out they weren’t needed as the
sculpture didn’t move at all throughout the firing.
